那位阿嬤，和那六個月One grandmother, and those six months
在 Alma 之前，我照顧過很多重症病人，其中不少已經進入末期。藥物和治療很重要，每天準時出現的那個人也一樣重要。願意聽、會解釋現在發生什麼事、把氣氛維持得輕鬆一些，我看過這些改變一個人做得到多少事。Before Alma, I spent years with people who were severely ill, and many of them were in the terminal stage. The medicine matters. So does the person who turns up every day, listens, explains what is happening, and keeps good humour in the room. I watched that change what people could do.
有一位阿嬤我一直記得。腦傷讓她進入末期，家屬已經被告知要有心理準備。我每天都在，陪了六個月。我們聊天，她狀況好的日子我們會笑，每一件要做的事我都先跟她說一遍。六個月之後，她完全康復了。One grandmother has stayed with me. A brain injury had left her in the terminal stage, and her family had been told to prepare. I was there every day for six months. We talked, we laughed on the days she was able to, and I explained everything before I did it. She recovered completely.
這樣的結果沒有人能保證。能帶進家裡的，是那份照顧。一位看得懂狀況的執照護理師，願意坐下來陪你媽媽的耐心，還有我對待那位阿嬤的方式。No one can promise that outcome. The care behind it is what we bring into your home.
